Bunion and foot surgery

Hallux valgus, commonly known as a bunion, is a foot deformity in which the big toe deviates sideways towards the other toes and the first metatarsal bone moves inwards, accompanied by widening and distortion of the big toe's metatarsophalangeal joint. Initially, these changes progress almost painlessly, with occasional episodes of pain. Over time, chronic local inflammation develops and pain becomes more frequent and severe. If the deformity progresses and pain increases, the only effective treatment for bunions is surgery.
