This condition involves overgrown synovial membrane or bone tissue bulging into the joint. The most common cause is an ankle sprain.
Rheumatic and degenerative diseases are also common causes of this condition
01
Symptoms

- Pain during or immediately after sports activity. The pain is felt deep inside, ‘somewhere in the joint’
- Limited range of motion in the joint
- Intermittent swelling
02
Diagnostics
- X-rays taken in 3 projections
- Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and/or computed tomography (CT) is necessary
03
Treatment
- Conservative treatment is ineffective
- Endoscopic techniques are used for surgical treatment. The procedures involve removing excess bone tissue and synovial membrane
- After surgery, the patient walks while keeping weight off the limb, supported by elbow crutches, for 2 weeks, and then begins intensive physiotherapy and physical therapy
- Full recovery is achieved approximately 3 months after surgery
